Fine Contemporary Crafts Exhibition

Fine Contemporary Crafts is a juried exhibition recognizing
individual artists involved in the design and creation of functional and
sculptural contemporary crafts. Craftspeople and artists from all over
the country submitted work in a variety of media for this biennial exhibition.
Works were selected by juror Tom Spleth.
Spleth earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Kansas
City Art Institute, Kansas City MO, and earned his Master of Fine Arts
from the State University of New York College of Ceramics at Alfred University.
His ceramic works have been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout
the country including in North Carolina at the Gregg Musuem, North Carolina
State University, Raleigh, NC; Blue Spiral Gallery,Asheville, NC; McColl
Center for the Visual Arts, Charlotte, NC; Southeastern Center for Contemporary
Art, Winston-Salem, NC; Ashville Art Museum, Asheville, NC; Cameron Art
Museum, Wilmington, NC; and the NC museum of Art, Raleigh, NC. Spleth's
work is part of many private and public collections, including at the
Cameron Museum, Wilmington, NC; Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois;
Kohler Company, Kohler, Wisconsin; and the Museum of the Rhode Island
School of Design, Providence, RI. Spleth has been awarded numerous public
commissions, as well as numerous project grants including funding through
the North Carolina Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts,
and the North Carolina Art in State Buildings Program.
Awards will be presented at 8pm during the First Friday Gallery Walk opening
reception on December 5. Awards will be: Best of Show ($750), Second Place
Award of Distinction ($500), Third Place Award of Merit ($250), and two
Honorable Mentions ($50 each).
